Q: Should I get an USB or a regular microphone?

A: The answer is: "it depends". If you never think you will need to record anyone than yourself go with an USB microphone. Today the only reason you would buy a "normal" microphone is when you want to do interview with another person in the same room - you will need one microphone per person.

USB microphone comes in an incresing variety. From $20 and up. We have heard great sound being produced by a $20 microphone, but we do recommend the AudioTechnica AT-2020 USB at a street price around $149. If you want to spend a little more money take a serious look at the Røde USB podcaster microphone with a street price around $229.

No matter what microphone you get you will need a POP filter to eliminate plosives and protect your microphone from saliva. A pop filter will greatly enhance your recording.
